On August 19th, news came from smart China that the much-anticipated smart #5 will unveil its domestic debut at the upcoming Chengdu Auto Show and is scheduled to land on the Chinese market for sale within the year. The model, which has previously completed the declaration process, is based on the advanced SEA Vast Architecture, adopts the 800V platform technology, and is expected to offer a range of more than 600 kilometers. smart#5 will be the world's first mass-produced model equipped with ByteDance's own “Doubao AI model”, which signifies that the brand is moving into the new smart OS. This marks the entry of the smart brand into the new smart OS 2.0 era, opening a new chapter of comprehensive evolution.
Design-wise, the smart#5 showcases smart's biggest, boldest as well as squarest design concept to date. On the exterior, the new car borrows a lot of design elements from the smart#5 concept, including the unique headlight cluster style and intermittent LED light clusters, as well as the closed front grille. Its front surround adopts a unique design of heat dissipation openings and is equipped with ventilation openings on both sides, making the overall appearance more personalized. On the side of the car, the waistline extends from the front to the rear, creating a wide-bodied visual impression, and optional 19- to 21-inch wheels are available.
At the rear, smart#5 also adopts a penetrating taillight cluster design, which echoes the front of the vehicle, presenting an intermittent light cluster shape. The complex rear surround design further enhances the vehicle's three-dimensional sense. In terms of dimensions, the new car's length, width and height are 4705mm, 1920mm and 1705mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2900mm.
In terms of configuration, the smart#5 offers a wealth of options, including non-privacy glass, LIDAR, roof-mounted headlights, cameras and a trip recorder. According to the comprehensive filing information, the production version of the smart#5 will be offered in several power versions, including a 250 kW rear-mounted single-motor version, a 165/267 kW front/rear dual-motor four-wheel-drive version, and a 165/310 kW dual-motor four-wheel-drive BRABUS performance version. The pure electric range is up to 570 kilometers, 660 kilometers, 670 kilometers, 720 kilometers, 740 kilometers and other versions to meet the needs of different consumers.
